NDS and TomTom navigation power Peugeot 208, European Car of the Year 2020
27. October 2020
The European Car of the Year 2020, the Peugeot 208, is powered by TomTom, using the NDS map specification. The Peugeot 208, available with both internal combustion and electric engines, is equipped with the fourth generation of the TomTom in-dash navigation system, including newly introduced services for electric vehicles. The compact car was thus able to beat some significant competition to claim the title of European Car of the Year 2020.
TomTom’s full stack navigation is using maps according to the NDS standard. In the Peugeot 208 this includes:
- TomTom EV services, which help reduce range anxiety thanks to global coverage of EV charging stations and live station availability information. This solution optimizes routes according to their energy efficiency and can guide drivers to compatible charging stations within the vehicle’s range. It also calculates the precise range based on energy consumption, route characteristics and current and predicted traffic.
- TomTom Real-Time Map Data and Traffic, which analyzes real-time traffic incidents and traffic flow, including speed per lane, to provide real-time information about congestion and road closures. This solution predicts traffic and knows the road ahead to save time and fuel and find the safest and most efficient route.
- TomTom Online Search and Fuel Stations, which make it easy to search online POIs and see live fuel prices.
TomTom has supplied PSA Groupe with automotive products for four years as of now. Their partnership has resulted in millions of cars on the road powered by TomTom location technology.
